Priceless

So, if you haven't heard already, I am pregnant... almost 9 weeks along and due January 2nd.  Man, Christmas is gonna be rough this year : )  But, I wanted to share with you how I told my husband because I was able to capture the whole thing with my camera... yeah, it pays to be a photographer and to always have my camera with me : )
I found out 3 weeks ago and the whole thing actually came as a bit of a shock to me because my Dr. told me that I would definitely need assistance whenever we decided we were ready to have children.  We really hadn't been in "baby mode" and so we decided that we weren't ready to proceed with any fertility assistance.  We had actually just started filling out an application to become foster parents! Anyways, so I found out and didn't tell him right away, not sure why.  I guess I was just in such shock.  But later that afternoon, I had to go out to take some tests shots at a location where I was later going to be doing a session and I asked him to come with me.  Right before we left the house, I ran back in the bathroom and grabbed "the stick" (I had actually done three tests because I didn't believe it), but I thought one was enough to tell David : )
So, we were walking along this secluded trail and I said something to the effect of "here ya go" and put "the stick" in his hand.  Well, I will let the images speak for themselves as to what his reaction was : )

Casting Call for an Upcoming Session!

Currently, I am involved in a photography mentoring group led by the lovely Kelli France of France Photography out of Colorado.  I have a couple of different assignments to complete for the mentoring that require me to schedule and shoot a couple different sessions.  I think this is a great opportunity for me to explore and practice some new techniques I will be learning, but also for you to receive a great session with some perks : )  So, I am having a casting call!  I actually already have two sessions lined up- a senior session and a children's session, but I am still in need of a BABY for a newborn/baby session!

Here is what I am looking for:

I would either like a newborn that is 1-10 days old or a baby that is old enough to sit up but not old enough to crawl.  No older than 6 months.
The session can be done either Sunday, May 30th @ 4:30ish or on Monday, May 31st @ TBA.  This session must take place at your home.  So, you can't be home shy : )  This session could possibly take up to three hours... gotta be patient with babies : )


Perks and Details:

~ Must live within 30 minutes of Lancaster, SC.
~ The Creative Fee is waived : )  Normally my creative fee is $150.  So, that is a savings of $150!
~ Prints and products are available for purchase at the regular rates.
~ A signed model release is required.
~ I will have full creative control with location, props, wardrobe, and posing.

What You See Is What You Get

A few weeks ago, one of my co-workers approached me about a local printer that I would recommend for her to print out some senior portraits that she recently had done of one of her daughters.  I could tell that she wasn't happy about  having to print them herself and even less than thrilled about how the images turned out.   After I viewed some of the images myself, I discovered that the photographer had in fact done a really good job- great composition, vibrant color, sharpness and clarity were all there.  What was not to like?  Well, I discovered that my co-worker prefers a portrait with more traditional posing and lighting techniques, and it was obvious from the images that this photographer's style was not traditional.
I'm sharing this with you because I can't stress how important it is to get to know a photographer's style before hiring them... what you see is what you will get : )  You can put an incredible photographer with an ideal client, but if their style preferences do not match up, the result will be mediocre at best and both the client and the photographer will be left feeling frustrated.  From a photographer's perspective, I can't tell you how exciting it is when I get a client who totally embraces my style and gives me the freedom to do my thing.  In my experience, this kind of opportunity produces the best results for the client and the photographer.  I hope this tip is helpful as you search for the right photographer for you!

A Surfer Dude, A Comedian, and A Princess

These little cuties belong to the lovely April and Crista from my last post.  Can you tell which children belong to which mom?  The two blondes belong to the brown-haired April and the one brown-haired child belongs to the blonde Crista, ha!  These three little ones are inseparable and might as well all be siblings.  They have been taking family photos together since they were babies... what a great idea!  They were sooooo good and really easy to capture!  The two boys had no problem taking instruction on different poses, but I had to take my cues from the little princess : )  She was so cute!
One of the things I do with children is to give them a task or ask them to help me with something in order to get them to hold somewhat still.  I asked her to pick out a certain flower for me and as she was following my instructions I think she was getting frustrated with me and my camera because I was getting in the way of her completing the task I gave her.  She kept looking at me like, "I'm trying to do what you asked me.  Why are you bothering me!?!"  It was so funny!
